Clinical Days and Small Kindnesses

Patients rarely remember the exact name of a procedure. They remember whether someone explained it, whether they were rushed, and whether they were treated like a person or a bed number.

As a student nurse, I cannot yet do everything. I can still introduce myself clearly, wash my hands properly, listen without interrupting, and notice when someone looks frightened.

Those habits are not extra. They are the work. Technical skill without presence is incomplete care.

Kenya’s public facilities are busy. That is not an excuse to become blunt. It is a reason to be even more deliberate with the minutes we do have.
