From First Year to Second Year

The jump from first year to second year is less about a new timetable and more about a new kind of responsibility. Lectures still matter, but the work starts to feel closer to real people.

At Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology, the Bachelor of Science in Nursing is demanding by design. Anatomy, physiology, and fundamentals stop being isolated subjects and start talking to each other. That is when nursing begins to feel like a language instead of a list of facts.

What helped me most was treating every skill lab as a rehearsal, not a checkbox. The students who practise slowly, ask quiet questions, and write things down in their own words tend to carry more into clinicals than the ones who only cram the night before.

If you are entering second year, protect your rest. Nursing school rewards consistency more than dramatic all-nighters. A clear head is a clinical skill.
